Presence of Closed Captions
Closed Captioning ‘On/Off’ button is disabled
If the CC button is disabled, there may not be captions for the program you’re watching because it did not originally air with captions on television. Please check back at a later time, as we are adding captions for some older programming that did not originally air with them.
However, if you find that captions are working for your program on a different Pluto TV platform, or you otherwise believe the program aired on television with captions, then please contact us so we can investigate.
Closed Captions are not appearing even though CC is toggled ‘On’
If the CC button is enabled and toggled ‘On’, then captions should be appearing. In the event that they do not appear:
- Make sure captions are not disabled in the operating system settings for your device
- Close the Pluto TV app and try again
- Check to see if captions are working for a different program
If none of the above steps resolves this issue, please contact us.
Caption Quality
Closed Captions are incorrect
- Captions made prior to 2014 were often paraphrased so some older content may have captions that do not match the dialogue exactly
- Live programming by its nature requires use of real-time captioning techniques that may not be as high quality as captioning on pre-recorded programming.
If you have any questions or concerns about the quality of captions on any Pluto TV program, please contact us so we can investigate.
Captions are out of sync
If you have concerns about excessive latency (delay) in the appearance of captions, then please contact us, as there may be an issue with the caption file . Please note that captioning on live programming, by its nature, tends to carry some latency.
Captions are cut off, extend off-screen, or lines of caption text are overlapping
Please contact us with the name of your program and the episode title (if applicable), as well as the season and episode number. Please also provide the date and time you observed the issue.
Closed Captioning Appearance Settings
Appearance options are not available or I am unable to find them in the app
Depending on the platform you’re using to watch Pluto TV, captioning appearance options may exist within the application or in your platform settings. On the website and in the Windows desktop application, there is a gear icon next to the CC button when captions are enabled. On activation, this button opens a menu with your caption appearance settings.
On other platforms, you may adjust closed caption appearance settings within the platform itself. For device specific instructions, visit our Closed Captioning Instructions page.
Appearance settings are not taking effect
Platforms carrying the Pluto TV app should allow the user to adjust text, background and window settings. If one of these required settings is not available or not functioning properly, please:
- Make sure you have the latest version of Pluto TV installed on your device.
- Close the Pluto TV app and try again
If none of the above steps resolves this issue, please contact us.
